Renowned party by music lovers, for music lovers, Slowpoke celebrates its first birthday the only way it knows how - with the announcement of a special free entry, slow building, musical adventure across the spectrum of house, funk and techno in a fresh new venue. With an extended performance from Inxec, playing both a Live and DJ set as well as support from Puente & Rosch with the Slowpoke residents completing the line-up, this is sure to be a birthday to remember.
Heading up the bill with an extended live performance and DJ Set is Christopher Sylvester AKA Inxec. After a late initiation into dance music in Sheffield’s early 90’s trance haven Gatecrasher, he quickly developed a passion for producing, initially on his Playstation, before quickly moving onto more professional software and really beginning to shine. Following early prog-edged releases 2005 saw him produce a string of EP’s on Jay Haze’s Contexterrior imprint that catapulted his recognition in the techno world and beyond. With recent releases on a plethora of the most popular house and techno labels, including Leftroom, murmur, and City Fox, Inxec has proven himself as a special talent time and time again. This was punctuated by his collaboration with Droog on one of this summer’s hottest releases - the ‘Westbound EP’ on Crosstown. His skill in the studio has translated into captivating live shows and DJ sets filled with emotion and an understanding of dance floor mechanics that have him in demand all over the world.
With people describing Puente & Rosch’s output as “Futuristic Gangsta House” and with releases on No. 19 Music, Sultry Vibes and latest track ‘This Feeling’ just dropping on Lower East - the talented pair have been making their own unique waves in the house world. Their sound is influenced by a joint love of late 80’s electronic music, taking a mix of West Coast hip-hop vocals, monster bass lines, breaks, and R & B; transforming it into their own forward thinking, funky and individual house sound. This saw Soul Clap feature ‘West Coast Feel’ in their Social Experiment Mix CD. The duo’s DJ Sets predominantly feature their own and their friend’s productions complimented by a blend of their own exceptional mixing styles to create a truly flowing performance. The Slowpoke residents Brian Monaco and Gower Ramsey complete the lineup using their years of experience to guide the sounds on the night and keep the party building.
Slowpoke is a musical journey with an emphasis on an unhurried build-up towards the end of the night. The party’s first year has seen it combine fabulous guests, and ever-fresh party spaces to win a special place in the hearts and minds of quality-music lovers. The first birthday sees the event take place in a new, previously unused space that promises to continue this trend.
