Behling & Simpson make an immaculate landing on the mothership Futureboogie as they deliver the wonder label’s fantastic number 004. A high-inducing listen from start to finish, the ‘Behling & Simpson EP’ is a cosmic circus of warm, low-slung house grooves with a healthy dose of analog disco.

Producers, label owners and general men about town Behling & Simpson are familiar faces on Bristol’s bass music scene. With 6 years of experience touring the globe as DJs and over 100 previous releases between them (under various guises), their collective output has been championed by the likes of Claude Von Stroke, Derrick Carter, Untold, DJ Die, Craig Richards, Friction, Modeselektor, and many more. Guys want to be them; girls want to be with them…

Having honed their production skills and in need of a new challenge, Behling & Simpson are now in the business of crafting fresh and original house cuts, dropping the tempo to allow space for highly swung drums, RnB-esque vocals and deep 808-bass. Behling has already appeared solo on Futureboogie’s digital offshoot with the sublime ‘Without You’ on ‘The Summer Riot EP’ and together they are responsible for the BBC Radio 1 lauded ‘B&S edits’ and a remix of Bashmore’s ‘Father Father’ on the boogiefuturo white label. Their first full EP for the mother label sees the Behling & Simpson sound fully unleashed.

Kicking off the A-side’s spaced-out party, ‘Politics’ is a pure slice of sultry house funk with soaring synths, trippy FX and a chunky percussive groove that sets the precedent for Behling & Simpson’s sexy swing. ‘UFO’s’ slow chugging groove plays out like a stoned disco house record with moody piano stabs, lazy congas and overall dubby vibe.

On the B-side, ‘Left Behind’ delivers bass and crispy hi-hats but still glows warm and glides to the rhythm of spacey synths, rippling pads and echoing RnB vocals that soothe the soul. The off-kilter groove of ‘Yenisei’ builds from jagged leftfield beats through tingling percussion into full-flown psychedelic drama. Behling & Simpson have clearly mastered the art of reinvention without losing sight of the dancefloor.
