"A crowd teaser and crowd pleaser, constantly rocking it with music to make you smile" is a very fitting description of mobilee´s new guest artist, Ray Okpara.
With a string of big releases on labels including Oslo, Get Physical and Remote Area, Ray has always stuck by his distinctive groovy, deep and bouncing house trademark style. His debut EP for Anja Schneider’s mobilee, ´Booty´ is no exception to the rule. Percussions, drifty hypnotic beats, a touch of soul and marvellously deep.
Title track ´Booty´ is built upon an inescapable and never ending tightly swung groove, whilst ´Crabapple Road´ comes with a bone-rattling bass line to plunge listeners to the depths of their senses. ´Modern Dance´ and ´Coyoacan´ follow suit with an equal amount of energy, heralding a strong collection of dance floor ammunition, which will no doubt conquer the best spots across the globe.
House is a feeling and Ray Okpara has his finger firmly on the pulse, leading the way. Whilst his own roots are in Nigeria, it is actually Mannheim, Germany that Ray has helped put on the electronic music map, with a string of stellar productions on hot labels and an formidable DJ style that has seen him rock every scale of spaces, from the intimate to the large scale festival circuit and becoming a favourite at the likes of Space terrace in Ibiza.
Listening to his unique style it’s no surprise to learn that Ray’s early influences were hip-hop, funk and soul. The nightlife escapades of he and long-time friend, Johnny D truly awoke his interest in electronic music. Impressed by the many different genres, the first attempt on the turntables was actually using Johnny´s UK Garage Records but his passion was truly ignited when Ray and Johnny began their own party, RAJO, which was hugely popular throughout the Rhein Necker Delta.
Future releases are already planned on Area Remote and other cutting edge labels as this year points to generating an assault of attention for Ray as he accelerates towards the stars with his winning sound.
