Parisian producer Yakine joins the One Records canon with the ‘Harmony EP’, a tight collection of grooves that get dark and dirty in the remix from Jef K & Gwen Maze and deeply atmospheric at the hands of Italian up-and-comer Nico Lahs.
The original mix of ‘Last Harmony’ is a solid bumping number with a cheeky little b-line threaded though the chunky grooves. Sexy female vox drift in and out as the track progresses into a deeper realm, shimmering pads pervading the crisp drums and jacking beats.
Next up ‘Tight Thing’ lives up to its name with tightly wound grooves and rolling drum patterns. An incoming of hypnotic beats and highlighted electronic keys break up the texture as the garage style vocal snippets and deep bass send the track into sexy, murky warehouse territory.
Jef k & Gwen Maze’s remix of ‘Last Harmony’ begins fairly stripped back as the cut up vocals seep through the dirty bass beat and deep sub-bass. Things get funkier as the bumping bassline drops and as momentum builds to its jacking peak, the talented duo deploys rhythmic synth stabs and pads that envelop the deep sonic layers.
Italian producer Nico Lahs, also a firm favourite in the Culprit stable, drops in for remix duty on ‘Tight Thing’, merging deep layers of atmospheric melodies with his signature melodic bassline, haunting voices and bursts of electronic lasers that enliven the mood as they pierce through the rolling, rhythmic grooves.
Paris born Yakine is a graduate from the French new wave, doling out the underground goods on labels such as Supplement Facts, Thirtyonetwenty, Robsoul, Adult Only, Monique Musique and District Raw since 2009. After getting switched on to the nightlife in Paris via his older brother’s connection with the infamous Batofar parties driven by Freak N Chic legend Dan Ghenacia, there was no looking back for Yakine as he hung up his hip-hop roots and starting making house music. Now with a residency at Rex Club and regular guest appearances around the globe, including the much-loved Half Baked daytime sessions in London, Yakine is a producer with as much skill behind the decks as in the studio. One Records is proud to get a piece of the action with his debut EP for the label set to be big with early support from heavyweights Dan Ghenacia and Tale Of Us.
