Back after a brief hiatus, the air london imprint is proud to present new recruit Sam Russo, who means business on their lucky no.8 release. A two tracker of deep and dubby tech-house ‘Violet Town/ You Need’ embodies analogue grooves with no-nonsense attitude.
Sam Russo is blessed with the kind of technical prowess that many would expect from a sophisticate with far more years behind him. A true beat wizard, Russo has been firmly under the wing of Leftroom label boss Matt Tolfrey, collaborating with him and fellow young blood Huxley and is one of those genuinely gifted engineers of sound with the potential to be one of the most prolific producers on the London scene. Featuring in Tolfrey’s exciting and impending live show ‘Word Of Mouth’, it makes perfect sense that Sam is now too part of the air london agency and what better way to mark his entrance than with two cuts for the label showcasing the boy’s effortless take on club music.
A-side ‘Violet Town’ kicks off with a raw drum beat that rolls into a bassline with a cheeky edge of funk, solid kicks building the layers to master its sonic grip. A super deep and rolling groover, ‘Violet Town’ is a ride that doesn’t scrimp on pace but delivers warmth and sex appeal as ethereal keys and smooth vocal snippets provide elements of fluid melody.
Moving into the peak time, ‘You Need’ is a stronger injection of tech with a driving pace, swampy drums and thick sub bass to envelop the dancefloor. Sam delivers rich and dubby textures against a banging backdrop, cloaking his dirty raw grooves in deep atmosphere. Sam is a producer on top of his game and sure to deliver a bounty of electronic music for the advanced age in the coming years.
