One of last year’s biggest records, ‘Summertime’ from Jamie Jones gets a fresh workover from SIS, Rob Mello and Jones himself along with new Hot Natured / Creations talent Robert James.
To say ‘Summertime’ was the record of 2009 is an understatement. A deluge of hype dogged the release after being broken at WMC and it didn’t disappear, getting played to the masses by every form of DJ until well after the year was out and named one of DJ Mag’s top Miami tunes ever and Best Dance single in the Best of British awards. “When we first decided to put together a remix package of summertime, I had my doubts, as the track had been so big, I was kinda over it,” muses Jamie Jones, “But all 3 of these remixes are totally fresh, and i've been rocking them every set. So I guess its summertime again."
Crosstown Rebels revisit this anthem featuring the vocals of Norwegian eccentric duo, Ost & Kjex, with three cutting edge reworks from Rob Mello, the highly talented producer who turns this hands in the air record into a funk filled disco monster. Sounding like a Prince classic, this has all the ingredients of a dancefloor filler.
Master of the remix SIS takes things underground, drawing out the epic qualities of the original and grinding down the beats. This is a twisted and haunting techno rework that builds to a masterful climax.
Last but certainly not least, Jones & James break down ‘Summertime’ to its barest bones. Drawing in with another infectious bassline to rival the originals this has anthem written all over it. Hints of electro merge into a gothic funk and produce a sinister retro synth inspired sound that could have been made in the days of acid house.
Jamie Jones is no longer a rising star of the underground house and techno scene, he is the leader of an army of fans in love with his original electronic funk sound that has developed into a cult sensation. Hot Creations and Hot Natured his two labels and countless production outfits and collaborations have made him unforgettable as an artist of our times.
