A sharp fresh breath of succinct house music from Greg Paulus arrives on Gadi Mizrahi’s vinyl only Double Standard imprint with five spell-binding remixes from the family members Deniz Kurtel, Soul Clap, Slow Hands and Mizrahi himself.
Greg Paulus is one half of No Regular Play and has been touring as part of Mathew Dear’s band as an accomplished trumpeteer. He delivered the original tracks of this series last year as the second release on the Double Standard imprint.
Boston’s superforce duo, Soul Clap start the package with a beat heavy and funk infused reworking of ‘Such A Shame’. Paulus’ melancholy and sensual trumpet melody frame the track while Soul Clap fire up the atmosphere with staccato beats and tactile pads.
Sliding up the tempo, Deniz Kurtel infects the dancefloor with a remix of ‘U R’ to get lost in. Ahead of her much-lauded artist album on Crosstown Rebels, she demonstrates an approach armed with mystique electrically arousing all the senses.
Slow Hands tackle two remixes as part of the package. ‘Part Of Me’ plays with shades of samba as exotic percussion collide with low end vocals and a fanfare of horns. ‘What’s Mine Is Yours’ is similarly colourful emitting a kaleidoscope of musical light in its path. Gadi Mizrahi, Double Standard label owner and one half of Wolf + Lamb, reinvents ‘What’s Mine Is Yours’ for the final curtain. Finding footing in the worlds of hip-hop and electronica, his version is a bass workout to send shivers to the base of the spine.
Offering five unique productions to mark the landscape of underground music, Double Standard once again stand up as a pioneer of the future of house music as we know it.
