Taken from his masterful DJ Kicks compilation, Motor City Drum Ensemble’s exclusive single ‘L.O.V.E’ is now presented in a staggering remix package featuring young Detroit prodigy Kyle Hall, Kompakt founder Wolfgang Voigt and deep specialists, Smallpeople.
Undeniably influenced by the underground deep techno of Detroit and luminaries such as Theo Parrish, Mike Huckaby, Rick Wade, Carl Craig and Omar S, Kyle Hall has been marked out by his heroes as a force of avant-garde creativity, carving out a niche in the Motor’s City’s history all his own. Raw yet richly musical, Kyle’s remix of ‘L.O.V.E’ is full of ricocheting 909 drums and bristling with loose percussion. The discordant FX and delays make for a haunting ride while the languid grooves maintain the deep warmth of the original. Simply epic.
Smallpeople are Julius Steinhoff & Just von Ahlefeld aka Dionne. As Smallpeople, they cross Detroit techno with deep Chicago, always rooted in a classic sound. Striking a balance between atmospheric warmth and club suitability they bring a mood-enhancing addition to this remix package in their piano-led rendition of ‘L.O.V.E.’. The Detroit synths and endless groove will seduce and make you dream of brighter days.
The legendary co-founder and co-owner of the Cologne based Kompakt Records Wolfgang Voigt (also known for his inexhaustible list of one-off projects and aliases) provides the stunning, third remix. Famous for his fusion of ambient pop music and 4/4 techno, Wolfgang’s remix of Motor City´s ‘L.O.V.E’ displays all the riches that you might expect from his productions. At once staying faithful to the rumbling Moodymann-esque bassline, Wolfgang invokes emotion and tension through his deeply organic sonic layers and ambient touches.
