Delivering choice cuts since it’s birth in 2009, One Records, headed up by key underground players Adam Shelton and Subb-an, rustle up a tidy collection of tracks from some faithful family members to put a stamp on the New Year with their own signature style of deep grooving house music with hints of retro funk.

With ‘I’m Dancing’ Adam Shelton offers up a deep and sultry dancefloor burner with plenty of drums, warbling pads, shimmering percs and a subtle grooving bassline that intends to get you ‘Dancing to the groove’ as the vocal advocates throughout.

Alex Arnout steps in with a sonically masterful and deeply layered piece ‘Vanishing Point’ complete with swirling synths and swinging kicks. Epic and sprawling with an infectious groove, this is a welcome return from the enigmatic producer who, under many guises and styles has been releasing music for over a decade now as well as running his own London based imprint ‘Dogmatik’ records.

In contrast, Hector, a firm favourite on the London underground scene for some time, brings a more paired down minimal tech edge with his slice ‘The One’. A dark and dubby terrain ultimately makes way for mood-lifting looping keys that lend a nod to the retro vibe.

Newcomer Seelie hailing from Manchester shows a taste for the early U.S house sound with ‘Soulocation’ - displaying some old school vocals and vintage keys brought up to date with true modernist grit. With its pulsating rhythms and bags of attitude this will pack a serious punch in the club.

Subb-an’s  ‘Keep Pushing’ also echoes the classic Chicago house era employing a deep male vocal, perky drum claps and soulful chords all befitting the downtempo sexy groove of this closing track.

Subb-an and Adam Shelton are pioneers of their local Birmingham and West Midlands underground scene. Setting up their own label One Records as a platform for their own productions as well as a way of pushing the bounty of home-grown talent that has connected with them over the years. Whilst Subb-an’s releases on B-Pitch, Hypercolour, 2020vision, Leftroom and Mothership have been making waves, outside of the label, Shelton has been dedicated to cultivating Below in Birmingham as the top club night outside of London for the past 5 years and gaining a reputation as one of the strongest resident DJs in the UK. In short, these two and their compatriots are a force to be reckoned with and you can expect much more from their brand of authentic, fresh sounds in 2011.
