One Records invite you into the musically advanced mind of Italian producer Slok with two original tracks, featuring killer remixes from One Records favourites Kris Wadsworth and Alex Arnout, plus a special digital only remix from label boss Adam Shelton.
Born in Italy but residing in Paris, Slok is an exceptionally talented producer of quality underground electronic music and a fitting addition to the One Records catalogue. Title track ‘Roots’ gets to work with a crisp drum pattern, slowly progressing through pacey hi-hats and sturdy claps into a medley of melodic pads, vocal teases and sonic explosion. Silky smooth strings and stabbing synths sit over the tougher beats; with a striking vocal added for that extra special touch.
Next up, ‘My Soul’ holds onto its housey roots, yet explores a techy and quirky edge. Setting off with punching analogue bass, grumbling deep chords and a vibrating hypnotic underlay. The track soon develops with quirky stabs that bounce off every dimension, while melodic warm pads add a feeling of elevation. The intricate array of percussions and layers within the track alongside the soulful vocal add to this delivery of cutting edge production.
Following the monumental ‘Lime and Pink’ released last year, One Records are pleased to have Detroit’s Kris Wadsworth back on board. His ‘Quarter Pounder with Sleaze Remix’ encompasses the Wadsworth sound perfectly, with a stripped back intro of whomping raw stabs and fuzzing underlying bass synths, which breaks down and explodes back with a thundering effect. Holding onto the mesmerising vocal snippet of ‘Roots’, which compliments the warping groove seamlessly, the track progresses with rolling synths, distant cries and deep, warm keys to deliver the ultimate Wadsworth remix.
Solid member of the One Records crew, London based Alex Arnout rounds off the vinyl release perfectly with his ‘9 T’s Remix’, a deep rolling groove with melodic pads and echoing vocals. Soaring synths float across the top tier, while the pumping bass keeps one eye on the dance floor.
Rounding off this seriously solid release is a digital only remix of ‘My Soul’ from One Record’s co-founder, Adam Shelton. Adam’s remix packs a heavy duty punch with a muscular bass and powerful energy; added hypnotic synths culminate in an emotive feeling juxtaposed with the raw drive and dubby sound bed in this dance floor beast.
