Sound 5
The Hacienda Must Be Rebuilt

Sound 5’s original house classic ‘The Hacienda Must Be Rebuilt’ refuses to die, the sentiment of the vocal clearly resonating with the house music crowd across the years, it has regularly turned up with unofficial remixes inspiring this official re-release.

Hot on the heels of being named Essential New Tune for their remix of T-Coy on Deconstruction, Kelvin Andrews & Danny Spencer deliver another classic re-release in the form of their Sound 5 guise. Released on the now-revered ‘No Illicit Dancing’ album on Gut Records in 2000, clearly ahead of its time and borne from a bewildering period of struggle for the production duo, the whole album has since been championed in the most unlikely places.

The first moment of recognition for ‘The Hacienda..’ came when it was signed and released by Rip Records following the wave of renewed interest at the time of Danny & Kelvin’s re-incarnation as Soul Mekanik. 10 years on and Ripdigital gives all those who missed it first time round an opportunity to hear the message that is the essence of house music with two fresh and different remixes.

First up is the ‘Cosmic ME mix’, a slow funk workout with cosmic extensions taking the listener higher through its journey. A mystery even to the record company, it was sent in with only the remix name as its identity adding to the allure of this majestic rework. This version is also available on WONK006, the Deluxe version of Soul Mekanik’s ‘81’ album. Only available on CD at www.soulmekanik.com.

Next is well-known duo of Tim Davison & Nicko Izzo delivering an upbeat and contemporary rework, taking their version that was created as a bootleg and making it relevant to today’s dancefloors. To round off the package are two re-stylings by Kristoph in his ‘Main Room’ and ‘Dark Room Dub’ versions. Between them they deliver seductive house for dark, big, outdoor and summer spaces, offering something for all music lovers in this Rip Records collection.

Soul Mekanik play an exclusive date at Lovebox Festival in London 18th July. Keep your eye on www.soulmekanik.com for exclusive free downloads & news
